AADA Emergency Action Report — Kunar Earthquake Response

AADA has deployed mobile health teams to villages affected by the recent earthquake in Kunar. AADA doctors, nurses, and midwives are treating injuries at the scene, providing IV fluids and wound care, checking blood pressure, and arranging ambulance transfers to hospitals when roads are open.
AADA moved quickly to reach areas where families had gathered outdoors. The Laghman Mobile Health Team has joined the response in Kunar to run extra clinic points and longer hours. AADA is also maintaining links with facilities in Nuristan and Nangarhar so that serious cases can be referred safely.
AADA’s initial response
AADA, as an implementing partner of UNFPA and UNICEF, is assessing the impact in Nuristan and Kunar. Several injured people from the recent earthquake have already reached health facilities in Nuristan.
Laghman: One fully equipped ambulance with medical staff, medicines, and supplies has been deployed from the UNFPA-funded project to Kunar.
Nangarhar: Two fully equipped ambulances with medical staff, medicines, and supplies have been dispatched from the UNFPA-funded project.
Nuristan: Two fully equipped ambulances have been mobilized from the UNICEF-funded HER-AF project office based in Jalalabad.
Kunar: One UNFPA-funded project ambulance already in the province is currently blocked by rockfall in Sawki district. The team is on standby and will proceed as soon as access is restored.
Early results
People with injuries received first aid close to their homes, including children who needed IV fluids.
Wounds were cleaned and dressed; painful limbs were supported so people could move more safely.
People with high blood pressure and other common illnesses were seen so their conditions did not get worse.
Ambulances were placed near access tracks to shorten the time to hospital when transfers were possible.
With support from the Laghman team, AADA opened clinics in more than one location at the same time, increasing the number of people served each day.
