Success Story: Safe Mother, Healthy Baby

Halima, a pregnant woman from Mirabad village, visited the Mian rodi BHC on January 11, 2025, a Health Center supported under the DAWAN project. The DAWAN project plays a vital role in providing health and nutrition services to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity in remote areas Shindand district.

Halima arrived at the Mian Rodi BHC after experiencing labor contractions for over 48 hours. She was extremely weak, dehydrated, and showed signs of low blood pressure due to prolonged labor and lack of food and water intake. The midwife at Mian Rodi BHC, trained and supported through the DAWAN project, immediately provided IV fluids and oral rehydration therapy. A partograph was used for continuous monitoring. During labor, fetal distress was detected through regular fetal heart checks. The midwife prepared for and successfully conducted neonatal resuscitation as the baby was born without signs of breathing. Thanks to the timely and skilled intervention by the midwife Hasiba, the newborn was revived and began breastfeeding shortly after birth. The mother was counseled on postnatal care and nutrition. Both mother and baby were discharged in stable condition.

“I am truly grateful to the DAWAM project for all the support provided to us, especially in building our capacity. I received all the necessary training, and as a result, I now feel proud to be part of the DAWAM family. I can help mothers and children who need care the most. This makes me feel both lucky and proud”
– Midwife Hasiba

This case highlights the critical impact of the DAWAN project in strengthening maternal and newborn health services. By equipping our health staff with the necessary skills and resources, and ensuring functional BHCs like Mian Rodi, the project continues to save lives and support high risk populations in remote areas.
