    Project Title: Expansion of Malnutrition Preventive and Treatment Services in Urban Kabul

    Project Overview: The project aims to expand malnutrition preventive and treatment services in urban Kabul to address the significant nutritional needs of children under five and pregnant and lactating women in a context of growing urbanization and limited access to health services.

    Objectives:

    1. Improve access to micronutrient powder for children under five to prevent micronutrient deficiency.
    2. Enhance nutrition services for adolescent girls aged 10-19 to prevent anemia.
    3. Strengthen the capacity of health facilities and staff to deliver quality malnutrition treatment and prevention services.

    Target Audience: The intended beneficiaries include children under five years of age, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescent girls aged 10-19 residing in urban Kabul, particularly those in underserved areas.

    Key Activities:

    1. Conduct a Micronutrient Powder (MNP) distribution campaign for children under five.
    2. Implement Community-based Women’s Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (C-WIFS) campaigns targeting adolescent girls.
    3. Operate and maintain 50 Directorate of Community Centers (DCCs) to provide nutrition services and support to caregivers.

    Timeline:

    • Start Date: October 9, 2024
    • End Date: December 31, 2025
    • Key Milestones: Establishing service delivery points, initiating community campaigns, and training health workers.

    Expected Outcomes:

    1. Increased number of children under five receiving micronutrient powders, leading to improved nutritional status.
    2. Enhanced knowledge of nutrition practices among caregivers and communities, resulting in improved health-seeking behaviors and reduced rates of malnutrition.
