    Project Title:

    Implementation of Community Based Nutrition Interventions in Herat Province

    Project Overview:

    The project aims to address the pervasive issue of malnutrition among children under five years and adolescent girls in Herat province, Afghanistan. It focuses on community mobilization and capacity building to deliver nutrition services effectively.

    Objectives:

    1. Mobilize and train target communities and Community Health Workers (CHWs) for the implementation phase of the Community Based Nutrition Program (CBNP).
    2. Provide micronutrient powders (MNP) to all children aged 6-59 months in the catchment area of health posts.
    3. Distribute Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablets to adolescent girls aged 10-19 and educate them on nutrition.

    Target Audience:

    The intended beneficiaries include children under five years old, particularly those suffering from acute malnutrition, and adolescent girls aged 10-19 in Herat province.

    Key Activities:

    1. Community mobilization sessions to engage local stakeholders and volunteers, ensuring balanced participation.
    2. Training of CHWs and community volunteers on nutrition service delivery and MNP distribution.
    3. Conducting quarterly distribution campaigns for IFA tablets among adolescent girls and educating them about nutrition.

    Timeline:

    • Start Date: August 18, 2024
    • End Date: October 14, 2025

    • Completion of capacity-building activities among communities.
