    Project Title: Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP)

    Project Overview: This project aims to treat and prevent moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) among children aged six to 59 months and support acute malnourished pregnant and breastfeeding women (AM-PBW) in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan.

    Objectives:

    1. Treat moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) among children aged six to 59 months and prevent them from progressing to severe malnutrition.
    2. Provide support for acute malnutrition among pregnant and breastfeeding women from confirmed pregnancy to six months postpartum.
    3. Increase nutrition awareness among caregivers of malnourished children and pregnant and breastfeeding women through social behavior change communication (SBCC).

    Target Audience: The intended beneficiaries include approximately 40,072 individuals, comprising 10,824 pregnant and breastfeeding women and 29,248 moderately malnourished children aged 6-59 months.

    Key Activities:

    1. Distribution of nutritious commodities such as SuperCereal and Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (RUSF) to identified beneficiaries.
    2. Conducting social behavior change communication sessions for caregivers regarding optimal infant and young child feeding and maternal nutrition.
    3. Monitoring and supervision of the TSFP implementation across 37 health facilities in Nuristan.

    Timeline:

    • Start Date: 15 April 2024
    • End Date: 31 December 2025

    Key Milestones:

    • Implementation of TSFP services across all targeted health facilities.
    • Regular monitoring and assessment of program performance and outcomes.
    • Completion of nutrition awareness sessions for caregivers.

    Expected Outcomes:

    1. Improved nutritional status among targeted children and mothers, with recovery rates exceeding 75% and death rates below 3%.
    2. Increased awareness and promotion of optimal feeding practices among caregivers of malnourished children and pregnant and breastfeeding women.
