Zulaikha Rafiq is an independent consultant and trainer, with 31 years of experience working with Afghan and international non-governmental and government agencies. Her most recent formal job concluding at the end of February 2016, was as the Executive Director of the Afghan Women's Educational Center (AWEC), an Afghan women's NGO working to protect and promote rights of women and children, and to empower women through advocating for equal opportunities for education, economic self reliance, and political and social inclusion. She has a BA
(Honors) and Masters Degree in English and American Literature from Delhi University, and has worked with agencies including UNESCO, International Rescue Committee, International Medical Corps, IbnSina Afghanistan, Afghan Women's Resource Center, UNFPA, and the World Bank-funded Education Quality Improvement Program (EQUIP) of the Ministry of Education of Afghanistan.
Her work involved teaching, professional training, curriculum development, communication, and program management. She has conducted professional training workshops in Afghanistan, India and Tajikistan, and represented an Afghan higher education institute as a member of the Teaching Evaluation in South Asia (TESA) consortium, wherein her role was to develop the communication module for a post graduate diploma in evaluation for South Asian countries. For the past three years she has also been an active member of the South Asian Women’s Network (SWAN).
